New Video: Advanced Landscape Photography Tips

Sue and I filmed this new video at Boulder Field in Hickory Run State Park, Pennsylvania.  In it, you'll see exactly how I use a graduated Neutral Density filter, and off-camera flash to photograph this unique landscape at sunset.  Your questions are welcome.

New Video: Using Live View for Flower Closeups

In this new video, I discuss how to use Live View to micro focus on tiny details.  Gear, camera settings and other specifics are also covered.  A very special thanks to my wife Sue for patiently filming this.   Also, you may have noticed the newly added Multimedia section on the upper right side of the navigation bar.  It's a quick and easy way to access my video tutorials, Photoshop help, and Audioboos.  As always, your suggestions are welcome for future episodes.  Thanks!

Not Your Typical Fireworks Photos

It's a flurry of bursts followed by a chorus of predicatable oohs and aaahs.  Yes, it's that time of year where we gather round to watch explosions in the sky.  There are tips for photographing fireworks all over the web so I'm not about to repeat the usual.  On the fourth of July, I like to do something different with my camera.  There are no rules, just fun experiments like moving the camera during long exposures, and zooming in and out with slow shutter speeds.  Every picture is a unique surprise.  Some even take on a surreal, otherwordly appearance.  I've assembled some of my favorites into a short piece below.  Thanks to Kevin MacLeod for the music.

Photography Questions and Answers - Episode 1 - A New Video Series

I'm pleased to launch a new photography series on my YouTube channel. It's called "Photography Questions and Answers". Basically, Sue asks some excellent questions to get me talking about what's going through my head while I'm shooting. She's listened to me ramble about photography for many years, and knows exactly what kind of questions would be helpful to other photographers. Meanwhile, I'm balancing on wet mossy rocks, shooting, talking, and occasionally using the flip video to show my perspective. Despite my best multitasking efforts, I admit taking a little spill in the water once. We'll save that clip for the DVD outtakes. I know the volume is a bit low, so for episode two I will try to incorporate the Zoom H2 mic into the mix so we can get some better sound for you. Theme song is courtesy Kevin MacLeod. Location was at Harriman State Park in New York. Edited on iMovie and Garageband on an iMac. I would love to hear your input. Your feedback will help shape future episodes. Thanks!
