Beauty in Big Cities

If you live in a rural area, the idea of photographing a major metropolitan city may be intimidating. Yet, the truth is, some of the most breathtaking scenes are found in urban locations. I love to find sights where nature and cityscapes converge. Add to that impressive architecture, inspiring cathedrals and magnificent artwork, and you have all the ingredients for quite the adventure.

This quote by artist Andy Goldsworthy really resonates with me. “My art is an attempt to reach beyond the surface appearance. I want to see growth in wood, time in stone, nature in a city, and I do not mean its parks but a deeper understanding that a city is nature too-the ground upon which it is built, the stone with which it is made.”

I discovered that this camera was the technical means in photography of communicating what the world looks like in a state of heightened awareness. And it’s that awareness of really looking at the everyday world with clear and focused attention that I’m interested in.
