Prior to going to Costa Rica, I had never even heard of a White Nosed Coati. In fact, when I first saw it from a distance, I thought it was a Jaguar due to it's long tail. I learned a bit about them from the Naturalist at the resort. Adult males are solitary and the females travel in large packs with the young. These groups can be as large as thirty Coati's. We saw a group of 10 crossing a dirt road. They are omnivores, and come from the raccoon family.
