I found this beautiful grouping of cacti at the Planting Fields Arboretum and used the Canon 100mm macro lens to photograph it. Usually when working on a close up study of a flower I opt for a small aperture in order to keep everything is sharp focus. For these cactus however, I opted for a very shallow depth of field at f2.8. This left only a portion of the cacti sharp, with the rest of them a blur of prickly spines.
