In DC, near the Tidal basin, a substantial stretch of land is dedicated to Franklin D. Roosevelt, the longest serving President in U.S history, and the Commander in Chief during most of WWII. By his side, is Fala, a Scottish Terrier.
Of course this part of Washington features many touching tributes to fallen soldiers, political leaders, and battles that defined the Nation's freedom. Yet, it seems fitting that man's best friend also has a prominent place right here. During those dark days when FDR navigated through some of the toughest days in American history, I'd like to think that Fala provided the occasional reprieve from an otherwise somber period.
