After several years of attempting to capture an F18 piercing a vapor cloud, I finally got the shot! Previous efforts were close, but the timing was never just right. At the 2012 Jones Beach Airshow, I decided to try a different technique. Instead of using the 400mm which is very tight, and leaves little room for error, I opted for the 70-200mm for this pass. The result was a bit more breathing room which allowed me to capture the whole scene without cutting off part of the aircraft, or vapor cloud. I still have about 12 GB of images to sort through, but the moment I squeezed this frame, I had a great feeling about it. More images to come in the next day so check back soon. In the meantime, enjoy the holiday weekend, and thank a Veteran for their service.
