This was photographed at Sunken Meadow State Park, a gem on the North Shore of Long Island. I don't worry too much about flare, opting to shoot directly into the sun with small apertures to help bring out the sunburst.
My go-to lens for scenes like this is the Canon 17-40mm. It's especially wide on the full frame 6D, but also works nicely on crop factor bodies as well.
