This adult was keeping a watchful eye on me as its young chick explored the beach at Nickerson Park on Long Island. In just one year the juvenile will be full grown.
Not yet able to fly, the juvenile relies on its parent for food.
Meanwhile, scores of Sanderlings take to the sky as gentle waves roll along the shore. ..
...before settling down and walking the coast together.
Of course everyone needs a little quiet time to reflect on things occasionally...
...but then again, there's always safety in numbers.
